It is not often you find a short book in which the content is interesting and well research. The author has a unique ability to explain what can be an considered an esoteric topic and break it down into understandable, and perhaps more importantly, interesting chunks of information. He dispels the common myth that an occult always means something "evil."This was my first dive into this topic and I was elated in finding a book that gave me fundamental understanding of various secret societies. I found all of the them quite interesting; but especially the section on the "Freemasons" piqued my interest!
I thoroughly enjoyed the "author's introduction" wherein he gives a well written synopsis on the content of the book. That part preps you well for the following chapters.
I look quite forward to his next edition (he states in his book there are more coming!).

Wow. What a mind expander. First thing I, as well many others, hear the word "occult" it's usually associated with a negative vibe. But after reading this, I found out I've been prejudging all this time. I like how he also explained how we may see people as terrorists, but how does one think about how they feel having foreigners in their country trying to fix something they shouldn't have been a part of in the first place. You need to read this with an open mind, not judging or anything. Great book! I'm excited to read more of your work.
This is a great book I highly recommend you check this book out. Most people aren't aware of the secret societies that exist and this book gives great insight into these mysterious groups.
I was always intrigued by ‘secret’ societies like The Free Masons and The Rosicrucian Order. Alfred Freeman gives you valuable information about these societies and others. I learned a lot about secret societies I never heard of before. If you are also interested in contemporary ‘secret’ societies I really recommend this book. You won’t be disappointed.
As explained by the author, the purpose of this book is to explain how and why certain secret societies exist and how and why you would want to join them. If you're looking to grow as a person, mentally or spiritually and to be around like minded people, a secret society might be right for you. If so, then this book would be an excellent book to read as it provides information on how to find the right society for you.
I quite liked this book since I am someone who knows next to nothing about secret societies! It provides s brief overview explaining what a secret society is and is not and also debunks many myths regarding them. It then goes on to discuss a few secret societies like the Freemasons in relatively great detail. My only complaint is that there is not enough breadth in the book and that more controversial societies should be discussed as well.
This book is great. If you are looking for detailed information why certain secret societies exits and maybe would like to join them I highly recommend you this book. I had several misconceptions about secret societies and this book was really eyes-opening. You get huge information about secret societies like the Freemason system and how to become a Freemason, about Ordo Templi Orientis, Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, Astrum Argentum and others.
I was asked to read this book and offer a review. For me this was something of a challenge because the title left me feeling like I was reaching beyond my comfort zone. I have as most may, always associated Secret Societies with the occult and the stigma that the word has held in society. The introduction helped ease that discomfort and offered a different context for me. From his definition of the occult, I was able to read further into the text.
From Freemasons to Rose Croix, I found the historical origins of each secret society discussed to be informative, and I learned something I had not previously known. I learned the basic goal or motto of each society tended towards the higher truth or purpose of the individual within the structure of the group. I walk away from this book with a better understanding of what a Secret Society is and why they exist.
