The Hazards of Skinny Dipping was not my favorite book. The first half was not good, though the second was slightly better. Still not my favorite story ever. *some spoilers ahead*

This story starts off with Juliet skinny dipping in her family' pool. Her cousin made her a list of things to do before college and this is the last of them. Then Dylan shows up next door, the guy she has had a crush on forever. One thing leads to another and they sleep together two seconds later. Unfortunately Dylan is not good in bed and it was just disappointing for Juliet.

So then Juliet goes to college and runs into Dylan again who is a controlling, borderline abusive, guy. He wants to keep having sex with her cause it is oh so great so she just goes along with it. The biggest problem with this book? I never understood why Juliet liked Dylan. She is with him for at least half of the book and he is terrible to her! At one point she thinks something like maybe now he will be the guy I had a crush on for so long, but the problem is we never get to see him as anything other than a controlling jerk. I have no idea why Juliet would put up with him and let him tell her what to do. He never takes her out on dates or anything he just wants to sleep with her. He doesn't even care if she enjoys herself as long as he gets off. He is a winner.

Dylan is terrible. Right from the beginning Juliet is always trying to not be alone with him, he gets super angry if she hangs out with other guys or wears "revealing" clothing around them, etc. She hangs out with his frat brothers tubing one weekend without Dylan and when he finds our he is pissed. How dare she hang out with other guys in a bikini! When she wants to spend the night in her own bed because she sleeps better there he is all nope. I sleep better with you in my bed. You will just have to deal with it. Argh he was horrible! I didn't understand why Juliet would put up with him. Maybe if we would have seen Dylan before, seen him be nice to her at some point, anything it would have been better. Instead it was just really frustrating and annoying. I just kept thinking is this going to be the entire book? Am I just going to have to keep reading about Juliet being a doormat and Dylan getting worse and worse eventually turning into a really terrible abusive boyfriend? That's not really what I want to read.

Juliet is not that great either, I mean obviously she just lets Dylan control her actions. I kept getting angry with her because she was so stupid for staying with him and never questioning him. It was bad. If you are constantly trying not to see someone, not to spend time with someone maybe that should be a heads up that something isn't right. She also is kind of superficial judgemental. So she befriends/works with this guy Reed. She had first met Reed on one of her first sorority things and wrote him off right away as a jerk. Why you might ask? Did he act like a jerk? Make terrible comments? Do anything that would make you think he is not so nice? Well no. It is because he was wearing a baseball hat backwards. Yep, everyone knows those guys are super jerks! Ugh. She annoyed me.

So the second half of the book is Reed and Juliet. It was better than the first half just because Reed was a good person, but it still wasn't my favorite. Really after reading a half a book of a jerk guy and doormat girl I just didn't care that much. Reed seemed nice, things were good, and I was surprised that Dylan wasn't really in the second half. I thought for how controlling and crazy he was in the first half that he would have caused more problems. It didn't seem like him to just give up. Oh well. Not my favroite book.

The Hazards of Skinny Dipping eBook Alyssa Rose Ivy Reviews

Juliet is headed off to college at the end of the summer and her cousin has left her a to-do list that she must complete one of which is skinny dipping. After her family leaves the beach house Juliet plans to enjoy her little swim to finish off her list. While in the pool her neighbor who happens to be the hot older guy she’s crushed after for years shows up, he even joins her in the pool. What should be a dream come to for Juliet is a night she won’t soon forget as the worst. Sneaking out she doesn’t expect to run into Dylan at college after all he’s a senior and she a freshman.

Juliet arrives early before school starts to pledge her cousin’s sorority even getting accepted into Delta Mu. It’s at a party with her sorority sisters that she encounters Dylan and it turns out he’s not happy she sneaks off and has been looking for her. While the night they shared was underwhelming Juliet falls into a relationship hoping it will be better. While Dylan isn’t perfect he has his own issues but Juliet overlooks them after all she’s been crushing after him forever. While pledging her sorority she befriends one of the Kappas who she forms a friendship with and when things fizzle with Dylan it gets steamy with Reed. Will he be the one to hold her heart? What about when secrets come out?

OMG I loved Juliet but I had my moments where I wanted to beat her with my kindle. I loved the way she completes her list it made me giggle how she jumped into her pool when it was dark and no one was around to complete skinny dipping. I also loved Reed as we got to know him; he’s the good guy who has a good heart who is exactly what Juliet needed. I thought the chemistry between Juliet and Reed was perfect and loved how they went from friends to more is fantastic.

The Hazards of Skinny Dipping is the first installment of the Hazards series. I started this last night before bed but had to put it down or I would have stayed up all night reading. To be honest I wasn’t sure how I felt about Juliet and Dylan but as soon as we got to know Reed I knew it would all work out. I finished the last 80% of the book in one sitting it was impossible to put it down because I had to know how it was all going to play out. I loved the characters they are easy to connect with and I loved Juliet she very well may be my favorite character from the author’s books. The author has created another brilliant series which captured the heart as well as the imagination. I’ve already picked up the next two in the series and can’t wait to read them all. This isn’t my first book by the author in fact I’ve read most of her books and she’s one of my favorite authors. I highly recommend all of her books so far I haven’t found one I didn’t love. The real question is which one do I love the most. I can’t decide but this one is my current favorite.
Another reviewer wrote that this book is missing emotion and sounds like it was written in a monotone. That reviewer hit the nail on the head! The Hazards of Skinny Dipping doesn't even read like a book. It reads like a screenplay, all dialogue, without any clue how the dialogue is delivered. This should have been the first draft--no, not even the first draft--the first outline, and the author should have then gone back and fleshed out the emotional element of the story. I'm literally stunned. I've never read anything like this. This is the only book by Alyssa Rose Ivy that I've read. If her other ones are better written, then she's certainly doing herself a disservice by making this one a freebie. I for one would NEVER waste my time on another book of hers. I don't understand how anyone would have given this book 5 stars.
